Hurricane Harvey, Nate, And The Fracking Industry

With over 60 years of combined experience and being family owned and operated for over 40 years, there’s only one choice that makes sense if you are looking for hydraulic repairs and hydraulic parts and tools. Acadiana Hydraulics has the experience, competitive pricing, and hospitality that makes a huge difference in any field, but especially the world of hydraulics. It makes sense why we are the premier provider of hydraulic repair services and parts in our Louisiana region.

Here at Acadiana Hydraulics, we have a passion for the industries that we support. Fracking goes hand-in-hand with hydraulic pump parts, hydraulic valves, hydraulic cylinders, etc. That’s why we thought it would be a great idea to take a look at a recent national event, Hurricane Harvey, in relation to the fracking industry. Keep reading if you are interested in learning more about Harvey’s impact on the economy and beyond.

Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey is the strongest storm that has hit Texas in over fifty years. It makes sense to learn that its impact to the fracking and oil industry has been severe. This impact goes beyond just the state of Texas; it affects the entire nation, and to some extent the world. To be precise, 15 percent of the nation’s production of oil supplies was cut. Put another way, the Eagle Ford share of South Texas shale lost 1.4 million barrels of oil per day. The most alarming part of the entire ordeal is that analysts aren’t quite sure when production can return to normal.

Hurricane Nate

As if Hurricane Harvey wasn’t damaging enough, Hurricane Nate had its own bowl of wrath to pour down on the Gulf of Mexico. According to a recent report by CNBC, more than 92 percent of crude oil output was offline in the nation’s offshore product hub just over 2 weeks ago, on October 9th. Energy companies had to turn off taps and evacuate workers for safety reasons. Luckily, the outlook for recovering from Nate is more promising. After the storm passed and the powers that be were able to take stock of the situation, reports emerged that the infrastructure remained largely intact. In contrast to the more severe damage of Harvey, it’s nice to see that a bit of luck combined with preparedness can go a long way.

Economic Considerations

While analysts estimate that over $20 Billion might be lost from the nation’s estimated GDP, those same analysts say that this figure is relatively minor when compared with possible damages our nation could have incurred. Though it’s somewhat comforting to learn that economists don’t consider Harvey’s impact to be debilitating, it doesn’t follow that the recovery process will be straightforward. Tony Sanchez III posits that there is a long road of recovery ahead. “It’s not just a matter of flipping a switch,” he said. “There is significant risk in those wells not coming back to previous levels” Mr. Sanchez said. “There is no historical comparison.”

Beyond Dollars And Cents

Despite the fact that we at Acadiana Hydraulics are concerned with the economic impact of this storm, we also understand that the hurt goes beyond just dollars and cents. People in Houston and in other communities have suffered the loss of family members, homes, security, and other things we can only begin to imagine. And while the support of communities within and outside of Houston is encouraging, the pain of the loss many have experienced is still felt around the country. We at Acadiana Hydraulics are encouraged, however, by the number of families that have been able to return to their homes in recent weeks.
